Franconian Wine Festival on the Pentecost Weekend in the Franconian Wine Country
The Seinsheim Pentecost Wine Festival is a fixture in the wine festival calendar of the Franconian Wine Country. The organizer is the Seinsheim Winegrowers' Association, which has been hosting the festival for many years on the extended Pentecost weekend at the 'Am Sportplatz' festival grounds in Seinsheim. The municipality is located in the Kitzingen district, in the state of Bavaria, on the eastern edge of the Steigerwald forest, and offers views over rolling hills and the Main valley from the surrounding vineyards.
The festival traditionally starts on Friday with a rock night, where local rock bands like KICKDOWN or F.U.C.K. kick off the wine festival with a bang. Saturday follows with the official opening with the Hopferstadt brass band and the equivalent of a beer tapping: the first wine tapping by the Wine Queen. Sunday is dedicated to the wine festival church service, followed by lunch and a music program until late evening; Monday concludes as a family day.
One of the scenic highlights of the Seinsheim Pentecost Wine Festival is the elevated location of the festival grounds with a panoramic view of the vineyards of the Steigerwald foothills. When the sun sets behind the rows of vines on Pentecost Saturday, the hills are bathed in golden light – a much-photographed scene found on numerous postcards and tourism brochures of the Franconian Wine Country.
Mainly the Seinsheim house grape varieties are served: Silvaner as the flagship of Franconia, along with Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, Domina, and red wine cuvées. The winegrowing families are usually present at the serving counter themselves. Accompanying this are classic Franconian delicacies: bratwurst from the grill, Schäuferla (pork shoulder), Käsespätzle (cheese noodles), Zwiebelkuchen (onion tart), and several rotating daily specials throughout the weekend.
The entire Seinsheim village community is behind the festival: the winegrowers' association, the brass band, clubs, and families all help out. The Pentecost Wine Festival thus has a very personal, authentic character that clearly distinguishes it from the large commercial wine festivals in Würzburg or Volkach.
From May 22 to 25, 2026, the Seinsheim Winegrowers' Association will once again open the festival grounds for its Pentecost Wine Festival. At the 'Am Sportplatz' grounds in the Kitzingen district, Seinsheim vintners will present their vintages, and Wine Queen Kim I. (2026/2027) will take on official representative duties.
Friday opens with the traditional rock night, followed by the festive wine festival opening with the festival band on Saturday. Pentecost Sunday is dedicated to the festive church service, followed by lunch and music, while Whit Monday concludes as a family day with lunch and musical performances.
