Christmas market with ice rink at Jacobsonplatz
Unlike many traditional Christmas markets, the Seesener Lichterzauber places an ice rink at its center. With approximately 300 square meters, it offers ample space for families, school classes, and clubs to gather for introductory hockey sessions, ice skating performances, and open skating times. The rink is open daily, and skates and helmets can be rented on-site.
The Jacobsonhaus, the center of the square, is the visual focal point of the light show. Spotlights, string lights, and projected patterns transform the facade into a winter wonderland. The central lighting moments at 5:30 PM and 7 PM are accompanied by music, becoming a small daily ritual of the market.
Around the ice rink, stalls offer mulled wine, bratwurst, crêpes, candied almonds, 'Schmalzkuchen' (traditional doughnuts), and non-alcoholic hot drinks. Local artisans, artists, and manufacturers also present their products: woodwork, ceramics, jewelry, Christmas decorations, and incense.
The Lichterzauber runs from December 4, 2026, to January 3, 2027, spanning the entire Advent season, Christmas holidays, and the turn of the year. Special events with music, performances by local clubs, and family programs are held on select weekends, further enhancing the schedule.
Seesen is located in the western foothills of the Harz mountains and, along with Goslar and Bad Harzburg, forms one of the region's denser clusters of Advent cities. The Sehusafest in summer and the Lichterzauber in winter shape the city's event calendar, which is complemented by numerous club and neighborhood festivals.
The ice rink has been the hallmark of the Seesener Lichterzauber for years, clearly distinguishing it from other Advent markets in the region. For many families, a visit is a fixed part of their pre-Christmas routine, and clubs, school classes, and companies also use the facility for their own events.
The daily lighting ceremonies at 5:30 PM and 7 PM structure the market and create small moments of community. Guests often gather with mulled wine and 'Lumumba' (hot chocolate with rum) in front of the Jacobsonhaus before these times.
The detailed program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in late autumn. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
