8th edition of the Street Food Festival on Jahnplatz with international food trucks, live music, and free admission
With its 8th edition in 2026, the Schummeltag Street Food Festival is a firm fixture in the Palatinate culinary scene. What began as an idea to bring food truck culture to the Palatinate region has evolved over the years into an established spring event that attracts visitors from all over the Vorderpfalz, as well as from Mannheim, Heidelberg, and Südpfalz.
The culinary offerings span the international street food world: American burgers and pulled pork, Asian dishes (ramen, bao, banh mi, Asian bowls), South American specialties (empanadas, arepas, tacos), Mediterranean classics, and vegan and vegetarian options for all dietary preferences. Several food trucks present their signature dishes — many of them are well-established in the Palatinate food truck scene and travel to festivals throughout Southern Germany with their trucks.
In addition to the culinary focus, a supporting program shapes the festival's character: live music on a small stage, lounge areas for relaxation, games, and entertainment for children. The atmosphere at Jahnplatz is relaxed and family-friendly — unlike traditional wine festivals, it's less about tradition and more about international enjoyment and urban Palatinate vibes.
The name Schummeltag — a Palatinate peculiarity — lends the festival a distinctive charm. In the Palatinate, a 'Schummeltag' traditionally refers to a day of minor indulgence, a culinary exception: a day when you can treat yourself gastronomically without guilt. This perfectly fits the concept of a street food festival — and makes the name part of the program.
The 8th edition in 2026 continues the proven format: three days of food truck festival at Jahnplatz with international cuisine, live music, and family programming. Free admission, food and drinks are paid for at the trucks.
