Guided cycling tour by the Civic and Heritage Association through the Dötlingen countryside
The cycling tour 'Dötlingen Discover Dötlingen' is a lovingly designed event by the Civic and Heritage Association Dötlingen e.V. It combines physical activity with local history, offering an opportunity to get to know your own municipality from an unusual perspective. It's an ideal introduction to village life for new residents and a chance for long-time inhabitants to connect familiar places with new stories.
The route takes about five hours through the municipality of Dötlingen and its districts such as Aschenstedt, Brettorf, Iserloy, Neerstedt, Ostrittrum, and other scattered settlements. Characteristic features include historic farm oaks, the typical hedgerows of the Wildeshausen Geest, and the proximity to the Hunte river. At selected stops along the route, participants will pause for breaks, explanations, or small refreshments.
For decades, the Civic and Heritage Association Dötlingen e.V. has been one of the most important cultural players in the municipality. It preserves customs, cares for historical buildings and sites, organizes heritage evenings, and is committed to conveying local history. The cycling tour is one of its most popular participatory formats.
The region around Dötlingen is considered one of the most attractive cycling areas in northwestern Germany. A dense network of supra-regional cycling routes, such as the Hunte Cycle Path and the Wildgeest-Pättken, crisscrosses the landscape. The heritage association's tour preferably uses quiet paths, offering a particularly relaxed ride.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring and summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years: start in the afternoon in Dötlingen, leisurely stages through the Wildeshausen Geest, intermediate stops with explanations of local history, and a convivial conclusion in the village center.
The route is designed for about five hours and primarily uses quiet side paths. Families are welcome.
Current information on the route, meeting point, and weather alternatives will be published on bhv-doetlingen.de.
