Schützenfest of the Wölpinghausen marksmen's association (Schützenverein) from 1925 at Meeresblickstraße in the village by the Steinhuder Meer
The Wölpinghausen Marksmen's Association was founded in 1925, boasting a history of over a hundred years. Over the decades, club life has evolved around competitive shooting sports, social gatherings, and the preservation of local traditions. The annual Schützenfest is the central social event for the association and the village community.
Wölpinghausen is situated on the northern shore of the Steinhuder Meer, Lower Saxony's largest lake. Its lakeside location shapes village life and gives the community a special tourist appeal. The Schützenfest falls within the peak season at the Steinhuder Meer and is also attended by guests visiting the region for recreation.
The Schützenfest follows the classic North German festival sequence. Friday evening marks the opening with the festival's commencement and a club evening. On Saturday, the new monarch is determined through the bird shooting contest (Vogelschießen); in the evening, the King's Ball (Königsball) follows. Sunday features a celebratory church service, the grand festive parade through the village, the King's Dinner (Königsessen), and a family program to conclude the festivities.
The marksmen's associations within the municipality of Sachsenhagen maintain close ties. Boards and delegations mutually attend each other's festivals, so friendly associations from neighboring towns also participate in the Wölpinghausen festive parade. This inter-municipal cooperation is a typical characteristic of Schaumburg's marksmen's traditions.
The 2026 edition continues the tradition of over a hundred years of the association. As in previous years, numerous guests from neighboring towns and the wider region are expected.
The board and the festival committee are preparing the event with great volunteer commitment. The members look forward to welcoming many visitors.
The exact program for 2026 with start times will be published by the Wölpinghausen Marksmen's Association in spring 2026 and announced via the website sv-woelpinghausen.de. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years.
