Traditional marksmen's festival in Bremen's Walle district
The Schützenfest Walle is more than a competition: it is the convivial heart of the club year in Bremen's Walle district. Over a long weekend, the Walle Marksmen's Association (Schützenverein Walle e.V.) transforms its festival tent into a meeting point for members, families, and neighbours — a vibrant piece of tradition in the state of Bremen.
The established schedule includes the collection of the king and queen on Friday evening, a communal breakfast on Saturday morning, shooting competitions in several age and skill categories, and the proclamation of the new monarchs. Parades and a festive tent program round off the days. The club holds competitions with air rifles and .22 calibre rifles in the sports hall, and on the old .22 calibre range during the summer months. The atmosphere is considered lively and convivial throughout all days.
The Walle Marksmen's Association (Schützenverein Walle e.V.) has been shaping club life in Walle for over 85 years with living tradition, making it a fixture in the district. The Schützenfest is its most important event of the year — and at the same time an invitation to the district: Guests are explicitly welcome to look around and get to know the club.
Walle is a traditional working-class and port district in western Bremen, whose name goes back to the noble family von Walle. Until 1914, harbour construction and industrial settlement shaped the district: oil mills, the Roland and Hansa mills, as well as a jute spinning and weaving mill on Nordstraße attracted many working-class families, for whom entire streets were newly built. In 1905, the Waller water tower, then the largest structure of its kind in Europe, was built — a landmark of the quarter to this day, which was long a stronghold of social democracy politically. Like many places in northern Germany, marksmanship is deeply rooted in club life here; the Schützenfest Walle keeps this tradition alive and combines it with neighbourly conviviality in the state of Bremen.
For the 2026 edition, the Walle Marksmen's Association (Schützenverein Walle e.V.) invites you to its festival tent from May 8th to 10th. As is traditional, the festival begins on Friday evening with the collection of the king and queen. Saturday will feature breakfast and shooting competitions in various age and skill categories, followed by the festive conclusion with the proclamation on Sunday. Guests from the district are welcome.
Schedule according to the preliminary program published by the Walle Marksmen's Association (Schützenverein Walle e.V.); subject to change.
