Traditional marksmen's and folk festival of the Walkenried Marksmen's Society in the southern Harz region of Lower Saxony
The Schützenfest Walkenried is organized by the Schützengesellschaft Walkenried e.V. The society is one of the oldest and largest in the community, preserving the marksmen's tradition across generations. The festival takes place at the society's own Schützenhaus, which includes a shooting range, a festival hall, and an outdoor area.
The traditional bird shooting, where new titles are awarded – Marksmen's King, Ladies' Queen, and Youth King – is the central event. The ceremonial proclamation of the new monarchs on the festival evening is a highlight for club members and the village community. The new majesties reign for the upcoming club year and represent the marksmen's society at parades and events of friendly societies.
The parade of the marksmen's companies through Walkenried is one of the most visually impressive program points. Accompanied by brass bands, club banners, and friendly societies from the South Harz region, the companies march through the town in uniform. The dance evenings in the festival hall feature live bands or dance orchestras.
The family day is aimed at children and families, with children's shooting, games, and refreshments. The traditional morning pint with brass music marks the conclusion of the festival weekend, bringing the community together again for a convivial gathering at the Schützenhaus.
The 2026 edition follows the established three-day structure of the Walkenried Schützenfest. The board of the Schützengesellschaft Walkenried e.V. coordinates the program in agreement with the friendly societies and brass bands of the South Harz region.
The exact program for 2026 will be announced by the Schützengesellschaft Walkenried in advance. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
