The Schützenfest of SV Niehorst is the annual Pentecost highlight in the Gütersloh district of Niehorst. The organizer is the Schützenverein Niehorst von 1924 e.V. — a traditional club with over a hundred years of history. The official start in 2026 is on Friday, May 22, at the Schützenhaus on Brockhagener Straße 376.

Schützenfest in Niehorst — The Pentecost Tradition

The Pentecost Schützenfest is one of the oldest forms of tradition in the East Westphalian shooting club scene — Whit Monday is the classic date nationwide for the proclamation of the king and queen and the festive parade. In Niehorst, the festival classically begins on Friday evening with the assembly of the marksmen at the Schützenhaus, followed by the evening celebration with the marksmen's band.

Throughout the weekend — as is customary in most East Westphalian clubs — there will be a bird shooting contest to determine the new king and queen couple, a festive parade through Niehorst, and an evening celebration with dancing. Schützenhaus on Brockhagener Straße

The Schützenhaus at Brockhagener Straße 376 is the club's center — shooting range, ballroom, and catering under one roof. For the Schützenfest, the outdoor area becomes a festival meadow with a beer tent, amusement stalls, and a standing area.

Niehorst is one of the village-like districts of Gütersloh, a large medium-sized city in the Gütersloh district (East Westphalia-Lippe) with around 102,000 inhabitants. While the city center with Bertelsmann and Miele represents the economic brand, the outer districts like Niehorst, Friedrichsdorf, and Pavenstädt maintain an independent village life — shooting clubs are important pillars of this.
