Traditional marksmen's festival of the St. Hubertus Marksmen's Brotherhood Norddöllen-Astrup with assembly at Norddöllen schoolyard
The Schützenfest of the St. Hubertus Schützenbruderschaft Norddöllen-Astrup is one of the fixed traditional events in the southern Oldenburger Münsterland. The two districts Norddöllen and Astrup belong to the municipality of Holdorf in the Vechta district; together they form an independent marksmen's brotherhood with its own traditions, its own royal court, and its own festival calendar. The Schützenfest is the highlight of the association's year.
Traditionally, the Schützenfest begins on Sunday with the ceremonial assembly of the marksmen at Norddöllen schoolyard. Here, the board, the royal court, the flag escort, active marksmen, and distinguished guests gather. The welcome by the brotherhood leader, the march of the flags, and the entry into the association's book officially open the festive day.
At the heart of every Schützenfest is the king's shooting, where the new marksmen's king is determined among the eligible members. With the proclamation, the new royal court assumes the representation of the brotherhood for one year. A festive procession through Norddöllen and Astrup, accompanied by brass music, is one of the fixed components of the festival day.
As in almost all Lower Saxony marksmen's associations, the festival is rounded off with a king's dinner, a dance evening with a live band, and a family day. In many years, the program is enlivened by honors for long-standing members, awards for deserving marksmen, and joint morning pint gatherings.
For Norddöllen and Astrup, the Schützenfest is more than just a Volksfest (people's festival): it is an expression of a grown village community, a meeting place for generations, and a platform for voluntary commitment. Visitors from outside are warmly welcome.
The 2026 edition of the Schützenfest Norddöllen-Astrup follows the established festive schedule of the St. Hubertus Marksmen's Brotherhood. The focus is on the assembly at Norddöllen schoolyard, the festive procession through the two districts, and the king's shooting.
The exact accompanying program — morning pint, king's dinner, dance evening with live music, and family day — will be published by the association's board in the spring issue of the club newsletter.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
