Spring-like Easter market with arts and crafts, gastronomy, and plant market on the Kornmarkt Osterode
The Easter Market Osterode am Harz is one of the town's oldest and most well-attended spring events. The venue is the Kornmarkt in the historic center of Osterode – a central market square surrounded by the half-timbered buildings of the old town, perfectly suited for a medium-sized market.
The focus of the market is on the stalls of the artisans. Here you will find artfully painted Easter eggs in numerous techniques, carved wooden items, felted and knitted spring decorations, ceramics with Easter motifs, jewelry, pottery, and textile products. The stalls are stocked by artisans from Lower Saxony, Thuringia, and Hesse.
An important component is the plant market, which traditionally complements the Easter market. Early bloomers such as daffodils, tulips, and primroses, perennial perennials, bedding plants, tomato and vegetable seedlings, as well as herbs are sold directly by regional nurseries. Thus, the Easter market also serves as a signal for the start of the gardening season in the Westharz.
Gastronomic stalls offer Easter specialties: Easter bread, lamb roast snacks, quark cake, spring salads, as well as coffee, cake, and mulled wine for the still cool spring temperatures. A small stage in the market area occasionally hosts Easter music performances or demonstrations of old craft techniques.
The 2026 edition continues the traditional event at the Kornmarkt. The exact date will be determined by the town of Osterode and VTM Osterode in coordination with the Easter date in 2026 (Easter Sunday: April 12, 2026). Therefore, the Easter Market 2026 is expected to fall on Palm Sunday, April 5.
