Last Schützenfest 2026 in the Friesoythe municipal area — August 29th to 31st, 2026
The Schützenfest Neuvrees in 2026 is the last Schützenfest in the Friesoythe municipal area. It concludes an extensive season that began in May with Ahrensdorf and led through Gehlenberg, Markhausen, Thüle, Altenoythe, the major main festival in early August, Neuscharrel, Kampe/Ikenbrügge, and Edewechterdamm to this point. A total of ten Schützenfeste in a single town — an impressive testament to the density of Schützenfeste in the West Oldenburg region.
Neuvrees is one of the rural districts (Bauerschaften) of the town of Friesoythe. Like all districts of Friesoythe, Neuvrees maintains its own independent club life, at the center of which is the Neuvrees Shooting Association. The annual Schützenfest is the highlight of the club's year and the most important date in the village calendar.
With the date of August 29th to 31st, 2026, the festival falls at the end of the meteorological summer. The days are already getting shorter, the evenings cooler, but usually, there are still summer daytime temperatures. This transitional period lends the festival a special atmosphere — the season finale often brings a special mood, with marksmen from all over the municipal area coming together once more.
The program follows the proven dramaturgy of a Friesoythe village Schützenfest: Saturday festival opening, assembly of the marksmen, king's shooting competition, and festival ball. Sunday festival service, parade, proclamation of the royal couple, morning pint (Frühschoppen). Monday family day and festival conclusion. As it is the last festival of the season, the final morning pint is often celebrated with particular warmth — looking back at the past Schützenfeste of the season.
The detailed program for 2026 will be published by the Shooting Association in advance. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Schützenplatz Neuvrees, Friesoythe district. A1 exit Cloppenburg, then approx. 25 km. Parking at the festival grounds and in surrounding streets.
Admission fees for evening dances on-site. Parade, festival service, and morning pint (Frühschoppen) are freely accessible.
As a season-ending Schützenfest, it's a particularly atmospheric event — marksmen from the entire Friesoythe municipal area come together once more.
