Schützenfest in Uedesheim on the Rhine
The Bürger-Schützenverein Neuss-Uedesheim e.V. preserves the Schützen- and Heimatfest in the southernmost district of Neuss. Uedesheim is situated on the left bank of the Rhine, overlooking Düsseldorf-Holthausen – one of the most scenically beautiful districts of Neuss, characterized by the Uedesheimer Rheinbogen, an extensive nature reserve.
Date 2026: September 12–15
The 2026 edition runs from Saturday, September 12 to Tuesday, September 15, 2026. Four days of festivities with a classic Rhenish shooting club program.
Festival Schedule
The festival sequence follows the Lower Rhine standard:
- Saturday 12.9.: Festival opening at the grounds, King's evening
- Sunday 13.9.: Festival service, grand parade through Uedesheim, concert in the tent
- Monday 14.9.: Family day with funfair
- Tuesday 15.9.: King's shoot, coronation ball in the evening
Funfair with Rhine View
The Kirmes (funfair) on the festival grounds is modest but atmospheric. Carousel, food stalls, drink stands, a few rides. The setting on the Rhine in the background – the Uedesheim Kirmes is one of the few district funfairs on the Lower Rhine with a direct connection to the river.
King's Shoot on Tuesday
On Tuesday, September 15, 2026, the Königsschießen (king's shoot) will take place. Participants will shoot at the 'bird' at the club's shooting range. The new king will be solemnly crowned in the festival tent in the evening – dancing, a festive banquet, and a civic ball will conclude the festivities.
Uedesheim – District on the Rhine Bend
With around 4,500 inhabitants, Uedesheim is one of the smaller districts of Neuss. Its scenic location on the Rhine, the floodplain forests of the Uedesheimer Rheinbogen, and its agricultural character – Uedesheim is more village than suburb. The Schützenfest is a central event for the community's club life here.
Connection to the New Year's Run
Interestingly, the annual Silvesterlauf Neuss (Neuss New Year's Run) also takes place at the Uedesheimer Rheinbogen – the course runs along the riverbank. Those who want to experience the district's festival life in Neuss-Uedesheim can orient themselves by the Schützenfest (September) and the New Year's Run (December).
