Marksmen Tradition in the Schleswig-Flensburg District

Neuberend is a small municipality in the Amt Arensharde, southwest of the Schlei town of Schleswig in the northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein. As in many North German villages, the local marksmen's guild is a central pillar of club life — and its summer marksmen's festival is one of the annual highlights.

The Background

Marksmen's guilds are among the oldest club structures in Schleswig-Holstein — they preserve the tradition of royal shooting, unite generations, and ensure social cohesion in the villages. In Neuberend, too, tradition is actively lived: the annual festival with shooting, coronation, and festival ball is an expression of this Schleswig-Holstein marksmen's culture, which has grown over centuries.
