Four-day Schützenfest of the 1654 association with King's Breakfast and Colourful Parade
Founded in 1654, the Müden-Dieckhorst Shooting Club is one of the oldest shooting clubs in Lower Saxony. For more than 370 years, it has survived the changes of history and maintained the shooting tradition as a cultural constant in the municipality of Müden. The annual Schützenfest is the highlight of the club's year and one of the best-known dates in the event calendar of the southern Gifhorn district.
Müden is located on the Aller river in the southern Gifhorn district, in the municipality of Meinersen. With around 2,100 inhabitants, it is a characteristic, lively village community. For generations, the Schützenfest has been the highlight of social life, bringing the entire population together.
From June 26th to 29th, 2026, the celebration will last for four days. This extended period gives ample time for each programme item: shooting competitions, parade, proclamation of the king, dance evenings, family day, and the traditional King's Feast.
A special element is the King's Breakfast. The reigning and newly proclaimed monarchs come together with the marksmen and the village community for a festive breakfast on Sunday morning. This tradition holds particular significance in Müden and is one of the most convivial moments of the entire festival.
The second programme highlight is the Colourful Parade. Decorated floats from the entire village – creatively designed by clubs, families, and initiatives – march through Müden together with the uniformed marksmen. Themes change every year, incorporating local anecdotes and current events. Registrations for your own float are possible with Michael Hardt until June 20th, 2026. Reporting on the festival humorously highlights that even Bibi Blocksberg flies to Müden – an expression of the diversity of the floats.
In addition to the mentioned highlights, the classic structure remains: shooting competitions for the royal title, proclamation of the new monarch, dance evenings with live music, and the family day with a children's programme.
The four-day structure allows the King's Breakfast and the Colourful Parade to be staged at their respective times without haste. The Colourful Parade is a hallmark of the Müden festival, bringing together the creativity, humour, and commitment of the village clubs.
Anyone wishing to register a float as a club, family, or initiative should note the registration deadline of June 20th, 2026.
The exact programme for 2026 will be published by the shooting club in the spring. The structure follows the proven key points:
