142nd Schützenfest of the Liebenburg Marksmen's Association from May 14th to 17th, 2026 — four days of festivities at Amtsrichtergarten below the castle, with a Warm-up on May 14th
Liebenburg is a municipality in the Goslar district with a long history. The name derives from the medieval Liebenburg, a castle complex, on whose site the magnificent baroque Liebenburg Castle was built in the 18th century. Today, the castle is one of the most important sights in the Salzgitter-Goslar region. The annual Schützenfest takes place at the Amtsrichtergarten — an area below the castle that offers a unique backdrop for a Schützenfest.
The Schützengesellschaft Liebenburg was founded in 1872, making it one of the oldest marksmen's associations in the Goslar district. With the 142nd edition of its Schützenfest in 2026, the association looks back on an exceptionally long tradition. Over the generations, the festival has established itself as a central date in Liebenburg's club life and the municipality's event calendar.
The 2026 Schützenfest spans four days. The kick-off is the WarmUp Schützenfest on Thursday, May 14th — a pre-event that has been established in recent years and brings together the marksmen's community and citizens even before the actual festival weekend. From Friday to Sunday, the main festival follows with its classic structure: opening evening, festival Saturday with the King's shooting and parade, morning pint, and family day on Sunday.
The importance of the Schützenfest for Liebenburg is also underscored by the fact that the municipal administration will be closed on Friday, May 15th, 2026 — the second day of the festival. This tradition shows how deeply the Schützenfest is embedded in the village community.
The program follows the classic structure of a North German Schützenfest: marksmen's service or festival church service, King's shooting with proclamation of the new marksmen's king, parade through the municipality with participation of friendly marksmen's associations and music bands, dance evening in the festival tent with live music, morning pint on Sunday, and family program.
The dates May 14–17, 2026, are estimates based on previous years' programs and information available from the association. Binding dates and detailed program are published by the Schützengesellschaft Liebenburg on sges-liebenburg.de.
The 142nd edition continues the long-standing tradition. The location at the Amtsrichtergarten below Liebenburg Castle lends the festival a unique backdrop that combines historical grandeur and village community.
The exact festival dates are estimates based on previous years' programs. Current and binding dates are published by the Schützengesellschaft on sges-liebenburg.de.
