Four bands, four styles in one evening in Kirchstraße Jänschwalde — June 20, 2026
When the first amplifiers are turned on in the evening of June 20, 2026, in Jänschwalde's Kirchstraße, one of the most unconventional summer festivals in the Cottbus region begins. The "Music Festival of Contrasts" lives up to its name: four bands in one evening, four completely different musical styles, one stage in the village center. From folk singer-songwriters to Schlager bands, rock formations, and electro DJs — all the active musicians from Jänschwalde and the surrounding area come together here. According to the organizers, it is precisely this stylistic break that makes the evening particularly exciting for many visitors.
The festival is organized by the association "WIR für Jänschwalde," a civic initiative that actively shapes village life. The music festival is part of a packed summer program that the community is planning for the coming months: from June 13 to 14, Jänschwalde will participate in the Brandenburg Countryside Tour, followed by a smaller brass music festival on August 23. The Music Festival of Contrasts is the musical highlight of the summer season.
Jänschwalde belongs to the Spree-Neiße district in southeastern Brandenburg, in the transitional area between the Spreewald and the Lusatian open-cast mines. The community is primarily known for the nearby Jänschwalde power plant — one of Germany's largest lignite-fired power plants. However, the village itself has a different character: rural, with brick houses, small courtyards, and a village center where this music festival takes place. Visitors to the festival get to know a part of Brandenburg that is not heavily developed for tourism and is precisely for that reason authentic.
It starts at 6:00 p.m. in Kirchstraße. The stage will be set up in the middle of the village, with a beer stand, a bratwurst stand, and a small seating area in front of it. Feel free to bring a folding chair. Admission is traditionally free — the festival is financed through the sale of drinks and food, as well as donations. Four bands, each playing for about 45–60 minutes, with short breaks in between — the evening winds down around midnight when the last band finishes its set. More of a village festival than a large open-air event, but with a surprisingly high level of musical diversity.

The styles typically range from rock and pop to folk and singer-songwriters, Schlager, or electro — this very diversity is the program and gives the festival its name.
