Three-day Schützenfest with bouncy castle and marching bands from Marx and Großheide
The Horsten Marksmen's Association (Schützenverein Horsten e.V. 1950) was founded after the Second World War, marking 75 years of club history. Horsten is a small community in the Samtgemeinde Hollenstedt in the western district of Harburg, and the marksmen's association forms the backbone of village life. The annual Schützen- und Volksfest is the most important date in the club's calendar.
The Horsten Schützenplatz is the traditional club grounds and, with its festival tent, shooting range, and outdoor areas, offers the necessary infrastructure for a three-day festival. Its family-friendly size makes the event manageable and ensures a personal atmosphere.
Compared to purely traditional Schützenfeste, Horsten consciously focuses on Volksfest elements that appeal to families. A bouncy castle, tin can alley, and other games attract children and young people. Thus, the festival fulfills its function as an intergenerational club festival and secures the promotion of young talent for the marksmen's community.
The beer tent offers classic festival catering. Sausages, burgers, and other snacks are prepared at the barbecue stand. A special tradition is the pea soup from Sunday 12 noon – a North German specialty that is a firm part of the festival as a Sunday lunch, providing hearty, satisfying food for festival-goers.
The parade on Saturday is musically accompanied by two marching bands: the marching band from Marx in Ostfriesland and the marching band from Großheide near Norden. Both bands travel for several hours to support the Horsten festival – a sign of club solidarity across regional borders. The music gives the parade momentum and underscores its festive character.
The 2026 edition continues the proven three-day format. With its clear family focus and the marching bands from Marx and Großheide, the festival offers a unique program.
The exact hourly schedule will be published by the association in early summer 2026.
