Three Days of Schützen Tradition on the Edge of the Harz
Langeln, a district of the Nordharz municipality in the Harz district, is one of the classic small shooting villages in Saxony-Anhalt. Every year in mid-June, the Langeln shooting club takes charge for a weekend: the Schützenhaus on Im Gänsekamp street becomes the focal point of a festival that focuses on customs, club life, and village proximity — without commercialism, without spectacle, but with a lot of atmosphere.
Here you will experience a Schützenfest as it is still often celebrated in the region: a parade through the old alleys, led by a brass band and a fife and drum corps, the grand king's shooting on Saturday, dancing in the festival tent, and on Sunday the children's Schützenfest with a torchlight procession and raffle. Families, those returning home, and hikers traveling in the Harz will find a likeable mix of tradition, draft beer, and live music.
In the Middle of the Nordharz Municipality
Nordharz unites several small villages on the northern flank of the Harz — Wernigerode, Halberstadt, and the Brocken are just a stone's throw away. The Langeln Schützenfest is therefore ideal for relaxing in the festival tent after a hike in the Hochharz or a visit to Wernigerode Castle. Hartmut Busch, the new shooting master from 2026 onwards, represents a generation that combines customs and modern village community.
