Marksmen's Festival in the Bohmte District of Hunteburg

The Schützenfest Hunteburg is the annual traditional festival in the Hunteburg district of Bohmte — one of the more populous districts of the municipality with its own identity and active club life. The marksmen's club has been preserving the tradition for generations.

Three Days on the Fourth Weekend in July

The 2026 event runs from Friday, July 24, to Sunday, July 26, at the Schützenplatz Hunteburg. This places the festival on the fourth weekend in July — high summer with generally favorable weather conditions for an open-air traditional festival.

Classic Marksmen's Festival Program

As is customary for Schützenfeste in the Osnabrück region, the festival includes a clear traditional program: bird shooting, king's shooting, proclamation of the new king and queen, parade through the district, king's dinner, dance evening with a live band, and morning pint. Fanfare and marching bands accompany the traditional elements.

Hunteburg Cannon Club Participates

A special feature of the Hunteburg marksmen's festival is the participation of the Böllerverein Hunteburg (Hunteburg Cannon Club). With traditional volleys from historical muzzle-loaders or cannon, the club provides striking acoustic accents — at the opening, during the parade, or at the king's proclamation. A tradition that is still maintained in Lower Saxony.

Hunteburg — A District with Character

Hunteburg is one of the independent districts of the municipality of Bohmte and, with the Ponymarkt (Pony Market) in October, has a second highlight of supra-regional fame in its annual calendar. The Schützenfest and the Ponymarkt shape the annual club life and attract visitors from all over the northwestern Osnabrück region.
