Traditional summer Schützenfest in the Holperdorp district of Westerkappeln
The Holperdorp Rifle Association is deeply rooted in the village community of its Westerkappeln district. The annual Schützenfest is not just a club festival but a meeting point for the entire Holperdorp population and an occasion for many visitors from outside to visit their home village. The association cultivates shooting sports traditions, organizes the King's Shoot, looks after the King and Queen, and meticulously plans the festival weekend.
The program follows the classic structure of a Lower Saxony Schützenfest. On the first day of the festival, the riflemen are welcomed at the festival grounds (Schützenplatz), after which the King's Shoot takes place. The proclamation of the King and Queen, with the crowning of the new monarchs, is considered an emotional highlight. On the following day, the association parades through Holperdorp in a grand festival parade (Festumzug), accompanied by a marching band or music ensemble. The concluding dance evening (Tanzabend) in the festival tent brings club members and guests together in a convivial atmosphere.
The traditional morning pint (Frühschoppen) on Sunday or Monday morning offers a relaxed end to the festival. With live music, bratwurst, and beer, the riflemen gather with their families for a final convivial round before the structures are dismantled and everyday life returns.
The Schützenfest usually spans three days: opening on Friday evening, King's Shoot and dance evening on Saturday, festival parade and morning pint on Sunday.
The program follows the classic stages of Lower Saxony's rifle association traditions.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the organizer in spring and summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years: bird shoot or King's Shoot, King's banquet, festival parade, dance evening, family day, and morning pint.
