Traditional Schützenfest of the Holdorf Shooting Club 1861 e.V. on the third weekend of July
The Holdorf Shooting Club 1861 e.V. looks back on over 160 years of club history. Founded at a time when the shooting club tradition was experiencing a boom in Lower Saxony, the club has fostered its role in preserving customs and identity in Holdorf for generations. The annual Schützenfest is the highlight of the club's year and one of the most important social events in the town.
The Holdorf Schützenplatz is the spatial center of the festival. The well-established club grounds include the marquee, shooting ranges, club buildings, and parking spaces for the arriving friendly clubs. The infrastructure has been continuously expanded over the years and now offers space for hundreds of guests.
The temporal anchoring on the third weekend of July has been a tradition for decades and is well coordinated with the surrounding clubs, allowing for an exchange between Schützenfeste in the region. In 2025, the festival was celebrated on July 20th and 21st; in 2026, the date falls on July 18th, 19th, and 20th.
Highlights include the parade through Holdorf with shooting companies, friendly clubs, marching bands, and music groups, as well as the king's shooting, where the new king and queen and their court for the coming club year are determined. Afterwards, the royal court is ceremonially proclaimed in the marquee. Dance evenings with live music and a morning pint on Sunday round off the weekend.
The detailed program for 2026, including times for individual events, will be published by the Holdorf Shooting Club on the club's website and in the local press. The general schedule follows the proven three-day Schützenfest tradition.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
