Traditional festival of the Junggesellschaft (founded 1854) and the Bürgercorps
The Junggesellschaft Hohenhameln was founded in 1854, boasting an unbroken club history of over 170 years. For five generations, the Junggesellschaft has helped shape the club life of the Hohenhameln community and remains a central player in village community life today. This continuity is remarkable, even in traditional Lower Saxony.
The Schützenfest Hohenhameln is organised jointly by two independent clubs: the Junggesellschaft and the Bürgercorps. While the Junggesellschaft traditionally represented the younger, unmarried generation (today with an expanded membership), the Bürgercorps is an independent form of club with its own traditions. The Bürgercorps Equord is also active in the community and part of the extended festival circle. This multi-faceted structure is characteristic of the marksmen's culture in the Peine district.
The festive opening is marked by a parade through the village of Hohenhameln, accompanied by music clubs and friendly marksmen's clubs from neighbouring villages. The King's Shoot on Saturday determines the new monarchs. The festive crowning ceremony in the festival tent is the emotional highlight of the weekend, accompanied by music, speeches, and honours.
The marksmen's ball on Saturday evening is the most important dance event of the weekend. A live band or DJ ensures a long night of celebration. Sunday morning is traditionally dedicated to the morning pint (Frühschoppen) with brass music, while the afternoon focuses on children's activities and games.
The Schützenfest is an identity-forming event for the residents of Hohenhameln. It provides an occasion for family reunions, gatherings of friends, and welcoming back former residents who return to their hometown for the festival. This social function ensures the vibrancy of the village community and passes the tradition on to the next generation.
From Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, the two clubs offer a packed programme. The parade, King's Shoot, crowning, marksmen's ball, and morning pint follow the proven schedule of North German Schützenfeste.
The new royal court will be determined during the King's Shoot on Saturday. The festive proclamation and crowning ceremony in the festival tent is the emotional highlight of the weekend.
The detailed programme will be published by the Junggesellschaft Hohenhameln and the Bürgercorps in spring 2026. The structure follows the proven key points from previous years:
Likely Friday, July 10th to Sunday, July 12th, 2026 (second weekend in July, date estimated based on historical pattern — official confirmation by the club in spring 2026).
Schützenplatz Hohenhameln, 31249 Hohenhameln.
Free entry to the festival grounds. Marksmen's ball may have an admission fee.
Hohenhameln is located in the southern Peine district, easily accessible via the L 410.
