Schützen- und Heimatfest of the Schützengesellschaft Hamm/Sieg 1841 e.V. with bird shooting, coronation, and festival service
The Schützengesellschaft Hamm/Sieg was founded in 1841, making it one of the oldest sharpshooters' clubs in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate. With over 180 years of club history, it has preserved the sharpshooting tradition in the Sieg municipality of Hamm and has become an important cultural player in the region. The annual Schützen- und Heimatfest is its most important social event.
The central competition of the festival is the bird shooting on Saturday, June 13th, 2026, starting at 2:00 PM in the Pinge. The Pinge is the traditional shooting range of the sharpshooters' society, a scenically located area with the required safety distances for sharpshooting. The active sharpshooters compete against each other to determine the new Sharpshooting King, who will represent the fraternity for the following club year.
The festival week kicks off with the members' meeting on Thursday, June 11th, 2026. Club matters will be discussed, accountability reports will be presented, and board elections or statutes may be addressed. The meeting forms the formal basis for the subsequent festival.
Thursday, June 18th, 2026, is the social highlight of the festival week: the coronation ceremony of the new Sharpshooting King with the handover of the king's chain and a subsequent party at the Kulturhaus Hamm/Sieg. The coronation ceremony is both solemn and festive, a classic Schützenfest character that expresses the connection between tradition and conviviality.
The festival concludes on Sunday, June 19th, 2026, with the festival service at 10:00 AM and the subsequent morning pint. The festival service reflects the religious background of sharpshooting traditions, as many sharpshooters' clubs are closely associated with the Catholic Church and its patrons like Saint Hubertus or Saint Sebastian. The morning pint continues the festival in a convivial atmosphere.
A special feature is the 1-Euro Party on Wednesday, June 17th, 2026, starting at 8:00 PM. With a symbolic entrance fee of 1 Euro, the event aims to attract young adults and new members, introducing them to the club and inspiring them to participate in sharpshooting.
One week before the actual festival, on Saturday, June 6th, 2026, the light trophy and youth bird shooting will take place as a preliminary event. The youth bird shooting determines the Youth Sharpshooting King from among the younger members, thus promoting the club's future talent.
The program is confirmed by the Sharpshooters' Society:
Competitions for the young sharpshooters and light trophy shooting as a prelude to the main festival week. Determination of the Youth Sharpshooting King from among the younger members.
Formal club meeting with accountability reports, possible board elections, statute discussions, and festival preparations.
Central competition of the festival at the Pinge, the society's traditional shooting range. Active sharpshooters compete to determine the new Sharpshooting King. Catering available at the Pinge.
Low-threshold party with a symbolic entrance fee of 1 Euro. Aimed at young people, new members, and potential recruits. Music with DJ set.
Highlight of the festival week: Coronation ceremony of the new Sharpshooting King and his Queen at the Kulturhaus Hamm/Sieg. Handover of the King's Chain, honors, festive speeches. Followed by a party with live music or DJ set, dancing, and a lively atmosphere.
Solemn festival service to conclude the festival week with liturgical accompaniment. Followed by a morning pint with beer and bratwurst, convivial gathering, and farewell to festival guests.
