Traditional Schützenfest in Hahnenklee-Bockswiese on August 8th and 9th, 2026 — featuring the famous humorous "Strafgericht" (punishment court) and Judge Gnadenlos
Hahnenklee-Bockswiese is a state-recognized climatic health resort and mountain village within the city of Goslar in the Westharz region. While the village is primarily known as a tourist destination for winter sports and summer holidays, its residents maintain a distinct club and festival culture, with the Schützenwesen (marksmen's tradition) at its core. The Sportgemeinde Hahnenklee and the local club structures organize the annual Schützenfest, thereby preserving a long tradition.
The 2026 Schützenfest spans two days. The compact weekend format provides ample space for the classic program elements and for Hahnenklee's special tradition of the "Strafgericht".
As with any North German Schützenfest, the king's shooting, the Schützen mass, the parade, and the Schützen ball are central. The king's shooting determines the title of Schützenkönig (marksmen's king) for the coming year. The Schützen mass or a festive church service gives the festival its religious-feierliche dimension. The parade through the mountain village involves marksmen, music bands, and local clubs. The Schützen ball in the evening offers the social highlight with live music and dancing.
A very special Hahnenklee tradition is the humorous "Strafgericht" (punishment court), which takes place as part of the Schützenfest. Judge Gnadenlos — a fictional or real club official who takes on the role — announces alleged offenses by club members and dignitaries with rhyming accusations. The accusations are humorous, satirical, often self-ironic, and refer to real or invented events from club life or local happenings. With hefty fines, which contribute to a communal hospitality fund, the accused are ironically punished. This tradition is rarely found in such a pronounced form in the Westharz and makes the Hahnenklee Schützenfest a unique event.
The proclamation of the new Schützenkönig is the ceremonial climax of the festival. The newly crowned king is honored with special accolades and celebrated with his royal family at the center of attention during the Schützen ball.
The 2026 edition continues the unique Hahnenklee tradition. The "Strafgericht" with Judge Gnadenlos is a satirical event that clearly distinguishes the Hahnenklee Schützenfest from other Schützenfests in the region and adds a special humorous touch.
