Shooting and Heritage Festival of the Gristede district on the last weekend of August
The Schützen- und Heimatverein Gristede (Shooting and Heritage Association) has been the driving force behind the village's festival calendar for decades. The Schützenfest (shooting festival) marks the annual highlight and is held on the last weekend of August. Gristede belongs to the Ammerland municipality of Wiefelstede and is characterized by the typical North German club culture, where shooting, sports, and heritage preservation are closely linked.
The festival days follow a proven pattern: collecting the king from the reigning shooting king, dance evenings in the marquee, bird shooting with subsequent proclamation of the new royal court, festive parade through the village, and a 'Frühschoppen' (morning pint) on Sunday. The focus is on the social gathering of the population with friendly shooting clubs.
The festival is organized on a voluntary basis by the members of the association. Construction, catering, security, and program design are in the hands of the Gristede residents. This self-organization is precisely what defines the character of the festival: approachable, familial, and with a long generational chain.
The date for 2026 has not yet been finally confirmed; according to club tradition, the festival will take place on the last weekend of August (presumably August 28–30, 2026). Current information is available on the club's website and the event overview of Wiefelstede Touristik.
The exact times, musical accompaniment, and program for the dance evenings will be published by the club in the summer of 2026. Based on experience, the festival days start on Friday evening with the king's reception, Saturday focuses on the shooting competitions, and Sunday features the church service, festive parade, and proclamation.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the Schützen- und Heimatverein Gristede in the summer of 2026. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Gristede district, municipality of Wiefelstede (Ammerland, Lower Saxony). Schützenplatz (Festival grounds) – address available via the club calendar.
Last weekend of August 2026 (presumably August 28–30, 2026). Confirmation via schuetzenverein-gristede.de.
Admission to the festival grounds is generally free. Food and drinks are charged according to the club's price list.
Gristede is located in the Ammerland region north of Oldenburg. Accessible by car via the Wiefelsteder Landstraße, parking available near the village.
