Schützenfest in Friedeburg – Tradition and Conviviality

The Schützenfest Friedeburg is one of the traditional folk festivals of East Frisia. When is the Schützenfest 2026?

The exact date for 2026 will be published by the Marksmen's Association in spring. Historically, the date falls on the weekend of August 22nd to 25th, 2026. As a rule, the festival extends over several days, from Friday to Monday.

The Royal Court 2025/26

In the current marksmen's year 2025/26, King Jan-Niklas Schoon holds the title of king. The marksmen's king represents the association throughout the year at official occasions, social events, and at the actual Schützenfest. The royal court is a central element of Schützenfest culture and shapes the identity of the association's year.

Classic Schützenfest Programme

The Schützenfest Friedeburg follows a classic programme rhythm that has evolved over decades:

• Torchlight procession – ceremonial start of the festival at dusk
• King's bird shot / King's shot – competition to determine the new marksmen's king
• Festival parade – on Sunday with music bands, marksmen's uniforms and floats
• King's banquet – festive meal with the marksmen's guild
