Marksmanship Tradition in Elze
Elze is one of the villages in the Wedemark municipality, which, with its numerous districts (Mellendorf, Bissendorf, Elze, Brelingen, Berkhof, among others), is located in the northern part of the Hanover region. The Elze-Wedemark marksmen's association is the organizer of the Schützenfest and is actively involved in the village's community life.
2026 Preliminary Program
Before the actual Schützenfest, two preparatory events will take place:
- Saturday, June 6, 2026, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. – District championships at the Elze Schützenhaus
- Friday, June 19, 2026 – Traditional gala evening
Both dates are an integral part of the association's life and prepare for the Schützenfest on August 15.
Schützenfest Saturday, August 15, 2026
The actual Schützenfest takes place on Saturday, August 15, 2026 (Assumption Day – a public holiday in some federal states), at the Elze Schützenhaus, Kuckucksweg 88. The program follows the Lower Saxony Schützenfest tradition:
- Assembly of the marksmen, opening
- Bird shooting competition in the morning/afternoon
- Festive parade in the afternoon
- Proclamation of the king
- Dance evening with live music in the festival tent
Elze Schützenhaus
The Elze Schützenhaus on Kuckucksweg 88 offers a festival tent, shooting range, and outdoor areas for the festival. It is easily accessible via the L 380 from Wedemark-Mellendorf.
