The marksmen's club "Ruhe siegt" Cammer was founded in 1919 – a club name that, with its slightly ironic tone, reflects a piece of North German club culture. For over a century, the club has maintained its customs and is now an integral part of club life in the Bückeburg district of Cammer. The club operates its own shooting range and holds its major Schützenfest every year on Ascension Day.

Festival Day on Ascension Thursday

The choice of Ascension Day as the festival date is traditional in Cammer. While other villages hold Schützenfeste over several days on the weekend, Cammer concentrates its festival on the Thursday. This format suits the character of the village and allows for an intensive, compact celebration. It begins at 2 p.m. on the festival grounds at the village community center.

Family-Friendly Program

The festival is deliberately designed to be family-friendly. Homemade cake and coffee, barbecue offerings, a bouncy castle for the youngest visitors, and a manageable festival area make the Cammer Schützenfest attractive for families with small children. The friendly openness to guests from neighboring towns and visitors from the wider region is a special feature that many regular guests appreciate.

Bird Shooting and Festive Parade

The highlight of the festival is the bird shooting, with which the new marksmen's monarch is determined. This is followed by the festive parade through the village, led by the outgoing and the new monarch, accompanied by the marksmen's companies and friendly clubs. The day ends with the festive evening, during which the crowning of the new monarch officially takes place.
