Grand Schützenfest of the Schützengilde Buxtehude with five days of festivities and a preceding children's Schützenfest
The Schützengilde Buxtehude e.V. is the custodian of marksmen's traditions in the Hanseatic city of Buxtehude. Club life is characterized by shooting competitions, social evenings, traditional events, and social activities. The annual Schützenfest is one of the highlights of the Buxtehude event calendar, bringing together members, families, friendly clubs, and citizens of the city for an extended week of festivities.
A week before the main festival – on Saturday, June 27th, 2026 – the children's Schützenfest will take place. The youngest marksmen will have their own day of celebration with a festive parade, laser rifle competition, proclamation of the children's king, carousels, and a family program. The preceding children's Schützenfest makes the Guild particularly attractive to young families and secures the club's future generation of members.
The main festival from July 3rd to 7th, 2026, is one of the longest Schützenfeste in the district of Stade. Over five days, the festival opening, several dance evenings, the king's shooting competition, the festive parade, the proclamation of the king, a morning pint (Frühschoppen), a family day, and the king's reception are spread out. The duration allows for a more relaxed program and appeals to different target groups – from the younger generation at the dance evenings to the family audience on Family Sunday.
The festival grounds of the Schützengilde Buxtehude are located close to the city center and are easily accessible via the S-Bahn line S3. A festival tent, shooting ranges, carousels, food stalls, and a beer garden will be set up for the festival week. The citizens of Buxtehude decorate the streets along the parade route with birch branches and club flags.
The children's Schützenfest on June 27th focuses on the Guild's youngest members – with a children's parade, laser rifle competition, and the proclamation of the children's king.
From July 3rd to 7th, the main festival follows with five intensive days of festivities. The duration allows for spread-out dance evenings, an extended family day, and space for various program points.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the Schützengilde Buxtehude in the spring. The structure will follow the proven key points of previous years:
