25th Anniversary of the Irish Folk Festival at the historic Kloster Möllenbeck
In 2026, the Irish Folk Festival at Kloster Möllenbeck looks back on 25 years of its existence. What began a quarter of a century ago as an unusual crossover between sacred architecture and Celtic music culture has become a fixed date in the Weserbergland's festival calendar. The combination of Romanesque and Gothic monastery architecture with the lively, often melancholic-cheerful sound world of Irish music creates a unique atmosphere that attracts a loyal audience year after year.
Kloster Möllenbeck, south of Rinteln, is one of the most important sacred buildings in Northern Germany. The Romanesque church, the spacious monastery complex with its buildings from various architectural periods, and the green courtyard form an extraordinary festival backdrop. During the festival evenings, the monastery garden is transformed into an open-air concert hall with stage technology, seating, and lighting.
The 25th edition brings together various bands and solo artists from the Irish Folk scene. The Cobblestones are confirmed, whose energetic live performances are among the highlights of the German folk scene. Further acts and details about the programme will be announced by the organiser in the run-up to the event. Based on experience, the festival offers a mix of traditional folk songs, instrumental folk music with fiddle, bodhrán, tin whistle, and accordion, as well as modern interpretations and original compositions.
Food stalls in the monastery garden provide guests with food and drinks. Irish Stew, sandwiches, vegetarian options, and of course Guinness, cider, and non-alcoholic refreshments are classically offered. Families, folk fans, monastery enthusiasts, and summer evening connoisseurs meet at this special place for an unforgettable concert evening.
Several bands are invited for the 25th edition. The program will be published in advance on the websites of the City of Rinteln and Kloster Möllenbeck. Based on experience, an evening of this series typically includes three to four bands, each performing full sets.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring 2026. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
Open-air concert in the historic monastery garden. Seated areas, standing areas, food and drink stands. In case of bad weather, covered areas within the monastery will be used if possible.
