Büngern and the Rhede Marksmen's Association

Büngern is a district of the Emsland municipality of Rhede (Ems), which boasts an exceptionally dense marksmen's culture with eleven independent marksmen's associations. The Büngern marksmen's association has been preserving local customs for generations and organizes the annual Schützenfest as a central event for the village community. In 2026, the festival will be celebrated with particular solemnity as the association is commemorating an anniversary and, on this occasion, is hosting a regional parade involving marksmen's associations from the entire Rhede network.

Anniversary Festival with Regional Parade

The regional parade is a special tradition of Emsland marksmen's culture. On the occasion of an association's anniversary, the celebrating associations invite friendly marksmen's associations from the region to jointly organize a grand parade. Marksmen from all associations assemble in uniform, brass bands play, and the association flags are carried through the village in a festive spectacle. This regional parade is a highlight and a declaration of solidarity within the Rhede marksmen's family.

Three Days of Festivities in Büngern

The festival spans three days, from Saturday, June 20th, to Monday, June 22nd, 2026. Saturday is dedicated to the festive opening with an evening celebration and marksmen's ball. On Sunday, the grand regional parade, the king's shooting, and the king's proclamation will take place. Monday is reserved for the king's dinner and the festive conclusion. The festival tent offers catering, musical entertainment, and a setting for social gatherings between association members and guests throughout all three days.

A Highlight of the Rhede Festival Season 2026

The Büngern anniversary festival fits into the dense Rhede marksmen's calendar for 2026: After the opening in Altrhede (June 6–8) and the women's marksmen's festival (June 12–14), Büngern, with its anniversary, forms the festive highlight of the month of June. This will be followed by festivals in Spoler, Vardingholt, Krechting (also with an anniversary), Crommert, the Junggesellen (bachelor marksmen), and the Bauernschützen (farmers' marksmen).
