Three-day Schützenfest of the 1963 Association with King's Proclamation and Parade
The Brietlingen and surrounding area Marksmen's Association (Schützenverein Brietlingen und Umgebung von 1963 e.V.) is one of the marksmen's associations founded in the second half of the 20th century. In the 1960s, new marksmen's associations emerged in many Lower Saxon villages, often as conscious new foundations after the ruptures of the 20th century. Today, the Brietlingen association is one of the active pillars of club life in the Samtgemeinde Scharnebeck — in addition to regular shooting activities, it organizes the annual Schützenfest, participates in the district marksmen's conference, and maintains close contacts with friendly associations in the region.
The Brietlingen Schützenfest spans three days and follows the proven program of North German marksmen's tradition. Friday opens the festival with the assembly of club members, a convivial opening evening, and usually a king's shooting competition or a cup competition. Saturday brings the king's proclamation in the late afternoon or evening, followed by the dance evening in the festival tent — the social highlight for members, families, and friendly associations. Sunday is characterized by the parade through Brietlingen, the King's Dinner, the morning pint (Frühschoppen) with brass music, and the family program.
Like many village Schützenfeste in the region, the Brietlingen festival also opens up to the entire village. Families will find carousels, bouncy castles, children's entertainment, and small game stations on the festival grounds. The morning pint on Sunday with bratwurst and brass music is the social meeting point of the village community.
Brietlingen is a municipality in the Samtgemeinde Scharnebeck and is located between Lüneburg and the Elbe. The Reihersee lake on the outskirts is a well-known excursion destination and the venue for weekly flea markets in the summer. With active associations, a fire brigade, and a church community, the town maintains a lively social life — the Schützenfest is an expression of this identity.
The three-day structure allows the association to offer a denser program than at the one- or two-day Schützenfeste in the region. Friday is for the kick-off and initial competitions, Saturday focuses on the king's proclamation and dance evening as social highlights, and Sunday features the parade and family program. This way, every generation and every interest finds a suitable day.
The exact detailed program for 2026 will be published by the marksmen's association in advance. The structure follows the proven key points:
