1200 Years of Ahnsen

In 2026, the village of Ahnsen celebrates its 1,200th anniversary. The first documented mention of the place dates back to the Carolingian era, making Ahnsen one of the oldest settlements in the region. On the occasion of the anniversary, the village community, together with the marksmen's association, is organizing an extended festival program that begins on Friday, July 17th, 2026, at 6 p.m. and culminates in the annual Schützenfest.

The Tradition of the Grey Goose

A unique feature in the region is the tradition of the Grey Goose at the Ahnsen Schützenfest. The goose holds a fixed place in the festival parade and is a living symbol of village identity. Those who experience this tradition for the first time quickly understand that the Schützenwesen (marksmen's tradition) is more than just military custom: it is a network of local stories, memories, and images passed down from generation to generation.

The Ahnsen Marksmen's Association

The Ahnsen marksmen's association (Schützenverein Ahnsen e.V.) is the heart of the village's club life. With younger and older members, a ladies' department, and active youth work, the association keeps the tradition alive. Beyond the sporting competitions at the shooting range, the association is involved in the village community and organizes the social highlight of the year with the annual Schützenfest.

Festival Schedule

The three days of the festival follow a proven structure. Friday begins with a special program for the village anniversary. Saturday is dedicated to the bird shooting contest and the king's ball. Sunday is marked by the grand parade with the Grey Goose, the king's dinner, and the family program.
