Traditional marksmen's and folk festival of the Wieda Marksmen's Society at the Schützenhaus am Kreuztal
The Schützen- und Volksfest Wieda is one of the most traditional marksmen's festivals in southern Lower Saxony. The organizer is the Wieda Marksmen's Society, which annually invites to the bird shooting and the proclamation of the king around midsummer. The venue is the Schützenhaus Am Kreuztal in the Wieda district of the municipality of Walkenried.
The centerpiece of the marksmen's festival is the traditional bird shooting, where the new titles of Marksmen King, Youth King, and Ladies' Queen are determined. The competition at the shooting range is accompanied by a club members' celebration and the proclamation of the king, during which the new majesties are solemnly crowned.
The social highlight includes the parade through Wieda and the dance evenings in the festival hall. The parade brings together the marksmen's companies in uniform, brass bands, friendly clubs, and citizen groups. The dance evenings are accompanied by changing live bands or dance orchestras and continue late into the night.
The family day is aimed particularly at children and families from Wieda and the surrounding area: children's shooting with light rifles, face painting stations, games, and child-friendly catering options complement the classic marksmen's festival format. The event usually concludes with the Frühschoppen with brass music, regional cuisine, and a convivial end to the festival days.
The 2026 edition follows the proven three-day structure of the Schützen- und Volksfest Wieda. Bird shooting, king's proclamation, and the parade form the tradition-oriented core elements, complemented by dance evenings, a family day, and Frühschoppen.
The exact program for 2026 will be announced by the Wieda Marksmen's Society in advance. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
