Schöningen — A Town with a Long Tradition

Schöningen, in the district of Helmstedt, boasts over 1,000 years of town history. Schöningen Castle, originally a medieval fortress, was expanded in several stages into a representative palace. Today, it serves as a cultural center and event venue. The associated castle park provides the ideal setting for the garden festival.

Regional Exhibitors

The Garden Festival aims to showcase the horticultural diversity in southern Lower Saxony and neighboring Saxony-Anhalt. Perennial growers, rose breeders, nurseries, herb and potted plant producers, and specialists in wild perennials and old varieties will present their plants.

Concert with Stefan Stern

The musical highlight of the day is the concert by singer-songwriter and solo artist Stefan Stern. His program, featuring guitar and vocals, provides the acoustic backdrop for the day, accompanying visitors as they stroll through the exhibition.

Anniversary: 100 Years of the Tourist Association

The 2026 Garden Festival is part of the anniversary year of the Verkehrsverein Schöningen e.V. (Schöningen Tourist Association), which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2026. Since 1926, the association has been dedicated to promoting tourism, local heritage, and cultural events in Schöningen and the Helmstedt region.

Gardens and Gastronomy

In addition to plant stalls, visitors will find stands offering garden art, planters, tools, bookstores with gardening literature, and handicrafts. Local vendors will provide culinary delights, including coffee, cake, hearty meals, and regional beverages.

Early Summer in the Castle Park

At the end of May, Schöningen Castle Park is in full early summer bloom. Rhododendrons, roses, perennials, and ancient trees create a dreamlike backdrop for the Garden Festival.
