Classical concert series in the ballroom of Mirow Castle
Mirow Castle on the island in the middle of Mirow Lake is the former residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and the birthplace of the later British Queen Charlotte, wife of George III. The baroque ballroom with stucco ceilings and oil paintings offers an extraordinary acoustic and atmospheric setting for classical chamber music. The concert series »Schloss Mirow Klassik« has been an integral part of the annual event calendar since 2024.
The series covers a broad spectrum: song cycles like Schubert's »Die schöne Müllerin«, baroque works from the musical notebook of Frederick the Great (Telemann, Handel, Stricker), classical string trio programs with works by Kreutzer, Mozart, and Beethoven, as well as Iberian sounds with vocals and guitar. The selection of works often draws inspiration from the historical court music of the Mecklenburg Dukes.
Performers in 2026 include, among others, tenor Benedikt Sindermann with guitarist Karin Leo (Schubert), recorder player Susanne Ehrhardt with harpsichordist Yuko Tomeda (Baroque), and a classical string trio (Classical Serenades). Ines Pinto and Marcio Silva bring Iberian vocal and guitar artistry.
The organizer is the association »Musik in Brandenburgischen Schlössern e.V.« in collaboration with the State Palaces, Gardens, and Art Collections of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The series helps to bring Mirow Castle to life as a cultural venue beyond its museum function and is part of a cross-state initiative to promote music in historic castle ensembles.
Mirow is located south of Müritz National Park in the Mecklenburg Lake District. Travel by regional train from Berlin (via Neustrelitz) to Mirow, or by car via the A19 (exit Röbel/Müritz) or A20. The castle island is accessible on foot via a bridge.
The »Schloss Mirow Klassik« concert series continues in 2026 with four dates in the ballroom of Mirow Castle. The organizers are the State Palaces, Gardens, and Art Collections of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in cooperation with Musik in Brandenburgischen Schlössern e.V.
The season opens on March 1st with Schubert's song cycle »Die schöne Müllerin«, interpreted by tenor Benedikt Sindermann and guitarist Karin Leo. This is followed on March 29th by a baroque program from Frederick the Great's musical notebook with Susanne Ehrhardt (recorder) and Yuko Tomeda (harpsichord). On May 30th and June 20th, classical string trio works (Classical Serenades) and Iberian sounds with Ines Pinto and Marcio Silva are on the program.
