Conference of the Lower Saxony Homeland Association on the topic of Cultural Landscape as an Opportunity
The Lower Saxony Homeland Association has been organizing its Lower Saxony Day every year since 1921. The 105th edition in Holzminden continues this long tradition, combining academic rigor with regional roots.
The 2026 theme sharpens the focus on cultural landscape as a structure of historically grown formations, ecological interconnections, and societal uses. Anyone considering the future of rural areas today cannot ignore this perspective.
HAWK in Holzminden, with its study programs in Social Work, Architecture, Industrial Engineering, Interior Architecture, and other disciplines, offers a fitting setting for a conference of this profile. Holzminden, situated at the transition from the Weser Uplands to the Solling, also serves as a case study area for the topics addressed by the Lower Saxony Day.
From April 3 to May 31, 2026, Schloss Bevern will host the exhibition 'Land der Alleen,' which explores the significance of tree-lined avenues (Alleen) for the cultural landscape. It can be visited as an introduction or a deeper dive into the conference themes.
As is customary at the Lower Saxony Days, the program offers a mix of plenary lectures, in-depth workshops, a panel discussion, and excursions that make the theme tangible on-site.
The detailed program for 2026 (lecture titles, speakers, workshop topics, excursion destinations) will be published by the Lower Saxony Homeland Association before the event. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of the Lower Saxony Days: an opening day with a keynote address and reception, followed by a second day with workshops, a panel discussion, and excursions.
Friday, May 29, and Saturday, May 30, 2026.
HAWK University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Holzminden campus (37603). Accompanying exhibition at Schloss Bevern (April 3–May 31, 2026).
