Traditional summer Schützenfest (shooting festival) of the oldest club in Osterholz-Scharmbeck at the Schützenhof
The Scharmbecker Schützenverein 1840 e.V. is the oldest club in Osterholz-Scharmbeck. Its founding in 1840 marks the beginning of a long club and town history. Today, the club cultivates shooting sports traditions, organizes the annual Schützenfest, and actively participates in the town's community life. The festival weekend is the highlight of the club's work and also offers an opportunity to connect with the town's population.
At the heart of the festival is the king's shooting competition, where the new monarchs are chosen. A special feature of the Scharmbecker Schützenfest is the symbolic storming of the town hall: the marksmen march to the town hall and symbolically take possession of it — a theatrical tradition that underscores the connection between the club and the town. A 'Volksadler' (folk eagle) target is also available for guests to try, allowing non-members to experience the shooting sports atmosphere.
The grand parade marches through the town center of Osterholz-Scharmbeck, accompanied by a brass band and a drum corps. At the Schützenhof on Ritterhuder Straße, a festival tent, food stalls, carousels, and live music create the festive atmosphere. The dance evening on Saturday and the morning pint (Frühschoppen) on Sunday are among the social highlights.
The festival opens on Friday evening with assembly and the official opening. Saturday features the king's shooting competition, the town hall storming, and the grand dance evening. Sunday includes the parade, the king's banquet, and a morning pint (Frühschoppen) to conclude.
A special feature: Guests can also try their shooting skills on the Volksadler. Carousels and fairground rides turn the Schützenhof into a festival ground for the whole family.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years: king's shooting, town hall storming, parade, dance evening, Volksadler, family day, and morning pint.
