Free Open-Air Highlight in the Bergisches Land — Kildara, DNA, and Nil Band on the Sand village square, Saturday, August 29, 2026, 6 PM to midnight
The Sander Sommer is one of the most charming open-air concerts in the Bergisches Land: a single evening of festivities, free of charge, right in the middle of the 2,500-inhabitant district of Sand in Bergisch Gladbach, with three bands on stage and the entire district as the audience. The next edition will take place on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 12:00 AM.
Kildara opens the evening — a Folk-Rock band with Irish and British influences. Energetic setlists, featuring mandolin, violin, acoustic guitar, and drums. Ideal as a kickoff for a relaxed open-air audience.
Middle slot: DNA, a regional Cover-Rock band with a program of 80s and 90s classics, rock, and pop. The band is characterized by its technical precision and the desire to sing along.
The evening's headliner is the Nil Band — one of the best-known cover bands in the Bergisches Land with a large repertoire (Pop, Rock, Funk, Soul) and an excellent live reputation. The band regularly fills the larger stages in the region — and comes to the Sander Sommer for free. A guaranteed peak in atmosphere.
What makes the Sander Sommer special: The entire district of Sand, with its 2,500 inhabitants, flocks to the village square. Families with picnic blankets, seniors in folding chairs, young people, dogs — all together in front of a small open-air stage, with the Sand church behind it, and the typical Bergisches slate houses all around. This is rural festival culture in its purest form, in the shadow of the nearby major city of Cologne.
Bergisch Gladbach, with around 112,000 inhabitants, is the largest city in the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis. It is located between Cologne and the Bergisches Land — and combines urban suburban structures with rural districts like Sand in the wooded heights of the Bergisches Land. The Sander Sommer is exemplary of the active club and initiative culture of this rural part of the city.
The 2026 edition takes place on August 29, 2026, starting at 6 PM. Organized by the Sander Sommer Initiative on the Sand village square opposite the church.
