Pop-up Straußwirtschaft and vineyard hike with picnic at Weingut Forster
Weingut Forster in Rümmelsheim is participating in the Saisonauftakt Nahe 2026 with a pop-up Straußwirtschaft (seasonal wine tavern) and a vineyard hike with picnic. Thursday to Saturday (April 16–18, 2026), from 5 PM to 10 PM daily, the winery will open its doors to visitors, serving its current vintage wines in the courtyard.
Rümmelsheim is located in the picturesque Trollbachtal valley in the northern Nahe region. With its districts Rümmelsheim and Burg Layen, the municipality forms a charming wine ensemble where several vintners operate their estates and cultivate the vineyards around Burg Layen and the Trollbachtal.
The pop-up Straußwirtschaft format is a modern variation of the traditional Hofschänke (farm tavern): for a few days, the winery opens a special area – courtyard, vinotheque, or outdoor space – for guests, serving wine, small dishes, and tastings. At Weingut Forster, the Saisonauftakt offers three evenings where the pop-up tavern is open from 5 PM to 10 PM.
A special highlight is the vineyard hike with picnic. It leads through the vineyards above Rümmelsheim and Burg Layen, past the steep slopes of the Trollbachtal and with a view of the castle complex. A picnic will be set up at a suitable spot – wine from Weingut Forster, regional bread, cheese, ham, salads, and small specialties. An ideal opportunity to experience the vineyards and terroir firsthand.
Weingut Forster is one of Rümmelsheim's family wineries, cultivating a wide range of grape varieties with a focus on Riesling, Burgundian varieties (Pinot Blanc/Gris), and Pinot Noir. The mix of slate, quartzite, and variegated sandstone in the vineyards shapes the minerality of the wines. During the Saisonauftakt, the winery and its personal hospitality will be the focus.
The municipality of Rümmelsheim includes the district of Burg Layen in addition to the main town of Rümmelsheim. The Trollbachtal, where Rümmelsheim is located, is considered one of the most beautiful small valleys in the northern Nahe region – with vineyards, mixed orchards, and Burg Layen as a historical landmark.
Weingut Forster Rümmelsheim opens a pop-up Straußwirtschaft from April 16 to 18, daily from 5 PM to 10 PM, for the Saisonauftakt Nahe 2026 and offers a vineyard hike with picnic through the vineyards around Rümmelsheim and Burg Layen.
As in previous years, the focus is on direct contact between the vintner and the guest. The detailed itinerary of the vineyard hike, picnic provisions, and registration will be announced by Weingut Forster a few weeks before the event.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
