Three days of community festival under the Sachsendorfer tent — 'Our neighbourhood, our festival' in Cottbus
The Sachsendorf-Madlow district is the largest contiguous prefabricated housing estate in the Lusatian metropolis of Cottbus — built in the 1970s and 80s as a residential city for energy industry workers. The Sachsendorfer Bürgerfest has been the identity-forming community festival of the neighbourhood since the early 2000s.
The festival runs from Friday, June 12th to Sunday, June 14th, 2026. The main venue is the Sachsendorfer tent on Gelsenkirchener Platz.
The patron of the 26th edition is the Lord Mayor of Cottbus, Doreen Mohaupt. This underscores the city's recognition of the Bürgerfest's importance for the Cottbus district.
The organiser is the Bürgerverein Sachsendorf/Madlow e.V., which has been organising the festival since 2001. The voluntary work of the association members is the backbone of the event.
Three-day community festival with established programme elements. The foam party and soapbox derby are the signature events, complemented by the classic Bürgerfest format with a stage and stands.
You can reach Cottbus with the RE2 train from Berlin in about 1 hour 30 minutes. From Cottbus main station, take the tram to Sachsendorf (Gelsenkirchener Platz).
Free admission. Food, drinks, and some activities are subject to a charge.
