About RUN UP
A Club as a Platform for Running Culture
The Ludwigshafen Running Club e.V. is one of the most important hubs for running and walking sports in the Vorderpfalz region. With training groups for all performance levels, from beginners to marathon and ultra-athletes, the club offers structured running meetups throughout the year. RUN UP holds a special place in this program: it is the official start of the outdoor season after winter.
Parkinsel: The Ideal Training Setting
The Parkinsel on the Rhine offers a flat, traffic-free circuit through the city park, suitable for running sessions of all lengths. The natural setting between Rhine arms, meadows, and old trees is both athletically undemanding and aesthetically pleasing. This combination makes Parkinsel the club's preferred training ground and the natural venue for RUN UP.
Open Event for All Performance Levels
RUN UP is explicitly not a competition event. Instead, the event functions as an open, free training format: there are several pace groups for different speeds, a Nordic walking group for those who prefer the walking program, and volunteer pacemakers to accompany the groups. The event is aimed at club members as well as external individuals looking to start regular running training.
Season Opener with a Sense of Community
Beyond its purely sporting function, RUN UP fulfills an important social role: it increases the visibility of club sports, offers a low-threshold entry into weekly running training, and strengthens the sense of community among participants. After the joint run, discussions, a shared breakfast, or casual exchanges in nearby cafes often follow.
RUN UP — edition 2026
The exact times for the individual running and walking groups will be communicated by the club in advance. Experience shows that the event usually starts in the late afternoon, allowing working individuals to participate.
Programme RUN UP 2026
The exact program will be published by the organizer in April. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
- Meeting Point: Parkinsel Ludwigshafen, registration at the Running Club's meeting point
- Brief Welcome: Opening by the board of the Ludwigshafen Running Club, division into different groups
- Pace Groups Running: Beginner group (approx. 6:30 min/km), intermediate group (approx. 5:30 min/km), fast group (approx. 4:30 min/km) – each with volunteer pacemakers
- Nordic Walking Group: separate group with its own pace and route through Parkinsel
- Route Length: several loop options, allowing each group to choose its own distance
- Afterwards: joint wind-down at the meeting point with drinks and discussion about the upcoming club season
The event is explicitly open to non-members and serves as an invitation to get to know the weekly club training.

Parkinsel, 67061 Ludwigshafen. 15 minutes on foot from the main train station. RNV bus lines stop on the Rhine promenade. Parking available on the Rhine promenade.
