Rother Frühlingsfest — Middle Franconia's Folk Festival Kick-off
The Rother Frühlingsfest is more than just a simple town festival — it is the traditional start of the season for the folk festival and "Festlas" culture of the Roth district. With the first beer tapping on April 30, the warm festival season begins: in the following weeks and months, dozens of church fairs, local festivals, and folk festivals will follow in the Roth district and neighboring Schwabach — the Frühlingsfest in Roth sets the starting signal.
Roth — District Capital in Southern Middle Franconia
Roth is the district capital of the Roth district in Middle Franconia (Bavaria), located south of Nuremberg. The town with around 25,000 inhabitants is situated on the Rednitz river and is internationally known as a triathlon city ("DATEV Challenge Roth"). Historically, Roth benefited from its location on the edge of the Reichswald forest and on the connecting road from Nuremberg to Donauwörth; to this day, Ratibor Castle shapes the city center. With the neighboring Am Lohgarten festival grounds, Roth has a permanent folk festival site that becomes active in the middle of the city during the season.
Opening on April 30 — Beer Tapping by the Mayor
In 2026, like in previous years, the Mayor will kick things off. Festival opening on Thursday, April 30, 2026, starting at 5:00 PM; at 7:00 PM, Mayor Andreas Buckreus will perform the traditional beer tapping ceremony. The festival evening will be musically opened by the local band "Rothsees".
Festival Tent with Franconian Music
The festival tent program follows the proven Middle Franconian choreography: the best bands from Franconia play nightly to create atmosphere in the festival tent. Unlike major folk festivals (Munich Oktoberfest, Cannstatter Wasen), the focus is not on national stars, but on the Franconian music scene — cover bands, regional show groups, folk music with a modern sound. Admission to the festival tent is free on all days.
Bierwirtschaft — the Roth Festival Beer Brand
A characteristic feature of the Rother Frühlingsfest is the festival beer system with its own "Biermarken" — small value tokens for purchasing a Maß (liter) of beer. One Biermarke costs €10.80; when you buy 10 Biermarken, you get an additional one for free. This system is classically Franconian and supports a quick service pace in the festival tent.
Amusement Rides and Family Program
Outside the festival tent, the classic fairground operations are underway — amusement rides for young and old, shooting galleries, candy stalls, snack stands with Franconian specialties. Family afternoon with reduced prices on one of the festival days.
Highlight on May 3 — Fireworks
The festival Sunday (May 3, 2026) provides a visual highlight of the festival week with a grand fireworks display. The event over the Am Lohgarten festival grounds is perfectly synchronized and attracts thousands of spectators.
