Traditional funfair with rides and showman attractions at Lohmarkt and Birkenweg
The Rotenburg Spring Fair traditionally marks the start of the Volksfest (popular festival) season in the district town. Together with the Autumn Fair in October, it forms the festive backbone of the Rotenburg showman calendar. For three days, families from Rotenburg and the entire Samtgemeinde (collective municipality) flock to the festival grounds at Lohmarkt and Birkenweg to experience carousels, rides, food stalls, and game booths.
Showmen from all over Northern Germany bring a colorful mix of classics and new attractions every year. In 2026, the Hip Hop Jumper, Polyp, Shaker, and Top In are among those announced. The fast-paced rides are aimed at teenagers and the young at heart, while gentler carousels and children's rides offer the youngest visitors their first fairground experience.
Between the rides, food stalls line up offering bratwurst, fried dough pastries, crêpes, candied almonds, cotton candy, and gingerbread hearts. Beer, mulled wine on cooler spring nights, and cocktails complement the gastronomic offerings. The atmosphere at Lohmarkt and Birkenweg is sociable and familial: you meet neighbors, school friends, and club colleagues between the booths.
Fairs have been part of Rotenburg's town life for centuries. The Spring and Autumn Fairs evolved from historical market days and developed into pure amusement events in the 20th century. The town administration organizes the event in cooperation with the South German Showmen's Association and regional festival hosts.
The Spring Fair is explicitly aimed at families. Children's carousels, candy stalls, throwing and shooting galleries with small prizes, and a manageable festival area ensure that even younger visitors can explore the fair independently. The festival grounds are well-lit and monitored by the town's public order office.
From Friday afternoon to Sunday evening, the festival grounds at Lohmarkt are continuously active. The showmen are predominantly from Northern Germany and travel with their rides, food stalls, and game booths to the Spring Fair. The evenings are a highlight, when fairy lights and neon signs create the atmosphere.
Confirmed rides for the 2026 edition include Hip Hop Jumper, Polyp, Shaker, and Top In. These are supplemented by children's carousels, dodgems, a shooting gallery, and throwing games. The exact list of all showmen will be published by the town administration shortly before the fair begins.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring. The structure follows the proven benchmarks of previous years. Current information on showmen and special promotions can be found on the websites of the Town of Rotenburg (Wümme) and on Kuestenkirmes.de.
