Traditional weekend Schützenfest in the Lachtepark Steinhorst
Steinhorst is located in the northwest of the Gifhorn district, on the Lachtebach river, which flows into the Aller north of Celle. With around 1,200 inhabitants, the community is manageable, but its club life is vibrant. The Schützenverein Steinhorst is one of the oldest and most active clubs in the village; its annual Schützenfest is an event where the community spirit becomes particularly visible.
As a venue, the Lachtepark offers an exceptionally beautiful atmosphere: old trees, wide lawns, and proximity to the water create an almost park-like ambiance that many other Schützenfest grounds do not offer. A festival tent and stage will be set up on the grounds.
Fixed program points include the King's Breakfast, which brings together the reigning monarchs and the marksmen in the festival tent in the early morning. The soup meal during the festival is a down-to-earth Steinhorst tradition – a hearty pea or goulash soup is served, strengthening the marksmen for the rest of the day.
King's Balls take place on both festival evenings. Live bands or DJs provide dance music; the reigning monarchs open the dance, after which the dance floor fills with marksmen, families, and guests. This double-ball structure ensures that the festival has a social highlight on both Saturday and Sunday evenings.
The shooting competitions for the royal title are at the center of the sporting activities. The proclamation of the new monarchs takes place in a festive setting, accompanied by festive music and salutes. The list of past kings hangs in the Schützenhaus (marksmen's club house) and is extended year by year – a living club archive.
The weekend structure concentrates the festival into two intensive days. The King's Breakfast and soup meal are the typically Steinhorst elements that distinguish the festival from others – a down-to-earth, warm hospitality known throughout the club's environment.
Visitors to the festival should take time for a walk along the Lachtebach – the venue invites relaxation between program points.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the Schützenverein in the spring. The structure follows the proven key points:
