The Rostock Whitsun Market is no ordinary folk festival — it is the oldest in all of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Historical records show that the first Whitsun Market opened on May 22, 1390. Thus, the festival looks back on a history of over six hundred years, making it a firm part of Rostock's identity.
Festivities in the City Harbour
The venue is Rostock's city harbour, where around 60 showmen and traders set up along the harbour promenade for four days. Rides, game stalls, and attractions alternate with a traders' mile along the quay. A Ferris wheel turns over the water, offering views of the Warnow, shipyard backdrop, and old town — a combination of funfair and maritime atmosphere that is typical for Rostock.
