38th Edition — A Race with Tradition

With its 38th edition in 2026, the CJ Schmidt Hafentagelauf is one of North Frisia's most traditional city runs. The organizer is the Athletics and Endurance Sports Association (LAV) of the Husumer Sportverein von 1875 e.V. — one of Schleswig-Holstein's oldest sports clubs. The main sponsor is the traditional Husum clothing house CJ Schmidt.

Six Competitions for Every Target Group

The run is more than just a competition — it's a city run festival with six events:

• Stadtwerke Husum Kids' Runs (212 m) — free, start 3:00 PM — for children aged 4 and up
• CJ Schmidt Hafentagelauf (10 km) — the main race, start 5:00 PM
• Georg C. Hansen Harbour Days Round (2.55 km) — start 3:45 PM
• Therapie Zentrum Rödemis RUN (5 km) — start 3:45 PM
• Provinzial Company Cup (10 km team) — start 5:00 PM
• VR Bank Westküste Relay Race (4 × 2.5 km relay) — start 5:00 PM

Right Through Husum's Old Town

The course leads through the historic city center of Husum, starting at Großstraße 9 and ending at Markt 19. Thousands of spectators line the route — the run falls on the weekend of the Husumer Hafentage, the city's largest harbour festival, and benefits from this festive backdrop.

Husum — Husum Shrimp, Theodor Storm, Harbour Days

Husum is the district capital of North Frisia, the hometown of the poet Theodor Storm, and one of the most famous harbour towns on the German North Sea coast. The Husumer Hafentage are the biggest city festival of the year — the Hafentagelauf is the sporting component of this weekend. Those who start here run through the alleys where Storm found the setting for his 'Schimmelreiter' and finish in one of Northern Germany's most beautiful market squares.
