Grand Rosenmontagszug through Neuwied City Centre on February 16, 2026, organized by the Neuwied City Festival Committee
Although Neuwied is geographically located in the heartland of Rhenish carnival, a distinct carnival life has developed here, differing from the strongholds of Cologne, Düsseldorf, or Mainz through a clearer small-town and district-based structure. Several carnival clubs, the city's festival committee, schools, and sports clubs contribute to the festive events throughout the weeks of the "fifth season.".
The highlight is traditionally the Rosenmontagszug through Neuwied's city centre. The parade brings all carnival actors — carnival societies, dance groups, music clubs, associations, schools, political groups — onto the streets and before the public. Throws of "Kamelle" and "Strüsje" (sweets, small gifts) are an integral part; families with children position themselves with bags to collect the thrown items.
The Festausschuss der Stadt Neuwied e.V. has been coordinating the parade for decades. It handles permits, security, route planning, insurance, and the registration of parade participants. Clubs, groups, or schools wishing to participate with their own float or walking group must register in advance with the Festausschuss — the registration deadline in 2026 was January 19.
The parade route leads through the central streets of Neuwied's city centre. Residents, families, carnival-goers, and guests from the surrounding area line the streets. Bars, cafés, and snack stands along the route are open; the atmosphere is cheerful, exuberant, and family-friendly.
The 2026 edition continues the long-standing tradition of the Festausschuss. The exact parade route and assembly points will be published on neuwied.de and festausschuss-neuwied.de before the event.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the Festausschuss der Stadt Neuwied in February 2026. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
