Carnival parade of the Große Linzer Karnevalsgesellschaft 1934 e.V. through the colourful old town of Linz am Rhein
Linz am Rhein is located on the right bank of the Rhine in the southern district of Neuwied. The historic old town with its colourful half-timbered houses, the Burgtor (castle gate), the market square, and the Romanesque Münster St. Martin is considered one of the most beautiful town ensembles on the Middle Rhine and is part of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage site. In this extraordinary setting, carnival unfolds with a special atmospheric effect.
The Große Linzer Karnevalsgesellschaft 1934 e.V. — or "KG Linz/Rhein" for short — was founded in 1934 and is the organiser of the official carnival in the town. It organises not only the Rose Monday parade but an entire carnival season with balls, sessions, get-togethers, and Möhnen events.
The 2026 season includes, among other things: Feb 6th Strünzer Ball, Feb 8th Bürger-Frühschoppen (civic brunch), Feb 11th KG-Bummel (carnival club tour), Feb 12th Möhnen (women's carnival), Feb 13th Regimentsabend (regimental evening), Feb 15th Karnevalssonntag (Carnival Sunday), and on Feb 16th the Rosenmontagszug as the highlight. This diversity shows: Carnival in Linz is not a one-day festival, but a public and social event spanning over two weeks.
The Rose Monday parade winds through the main streets of Linz's city centre — a visual spectacle where the colourful half-timbered houses, the decorated floats, and the dance troupes go hand in hand against the World Heritage backdrop. Several thousand spectators from Linz, the surrounding administrative districts, and the Westerwald line the route.
The parade route for 2026 will be published by KG Linz 1934 in February 2026 on kg-linz-rhein.de. The carnival season includes numerous accompanying events, all documented in a separate season brochure by the KG.
