Overview

The ROOTS African Food Festival 2025 established the open-air format in the Schröderstift inner courtyard: six Sundays between April and September with African cuisine, Afrobeat, Amapiano, and a strong sense of community. Schrödingers Hamburg thus consolidated one of the most important meeting points for African culture in the Hanseatic city.

Review 2025

Over six dates between April and September 2025, the ROOTS festival attracted a growing circle of Hamburg visitors – both the African diaspora and a broad urban audience that has discovered African food culture in recent years. Each edition brought together rotating pop-up stalls with West African, East African, South African, and North African cuisine, along with DJ sets and live acts.

In the Eimsbüttel district, the festival established itself in 2025 as a regular venue for open-air enjoyment with African roots – a conscious addition to the numerous classic summer festivals of the Hanseatic city.
